Biography

MERLINDA BOBIS is an award-winning writer, performer, and scholar. She has published/produced four novels, five poetry books, a collection of short stories, eight performance works for stage and radio, and various literary works and critical essays in anthologies, journals, and magazines. Her latest novel Locust Girl. A Lovesong won the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction (2016 New South Wales Premier’s Award). Her research has covered the transnational imaginary, postcoloniality, creative-critical production, cross-cultural engagement and the border, militarism, loss and water, and empathy. She has worked on international collaborative research projects with scholars and academics in Australia, Spain, USA, Canada, and China. She taught Creative Writing for 21 years at University of Wollongong, and, beforehand, English and Literature for 10 years at various universities in the Philippines.
